Newcastle is a great place to visit with so many things to do. Here are a few things we did on one weekend in this great city. After receiving gift vouchers for Christmas we decided to pool them together and make a weekend experience. Saturday morning we took an exhausting 15-minute drive into the city, first stop, The Press Book House Cafe for a coffee.
The Press Book House Cafe is located in Hunter Street opposite the new University of Newcastle Campus on the corner of Auckland Street. A second-hand bookstore makes for a great place to relax, browse through a few books whilst enjoying a great cup of coffee. If you need something to have with your coffee other than a good book there are also some tasty eats to choose from.
After enjoying our coffee we talk a short walk along Auckland Street were we found The Olive Tree Markets in Civic Park. Civic Park is in King Street opposite City Hall and is between Auckland and Darby Street. The Olive Tree Markets are held here on the first Saturday of each month and we just happened to make an unplanned visit. The markets are a collection of local contemporary handmade art and crafts from around the region. They have a musician playing for our enjoyment and there are food vans for those needing something to eat.

Greg had received a Flight Simulator Experience which was located close to the CBD. We both had jointly received a Red Balloon gift voucher which gave us a great selection of experiences.
Also had wanted to do a lunch or dinner cruise on the harbour and there was a lunch cruise we could do using our Red Balloon gift voucher so we decided that we would combine the two, book a hotel in the city and make a weekend experience even though we only lived 15 minutes away.
